Model Shoot: Alisha

During July 4th weekend I went up to Michigan to visit some friends up there, go to a concert, and of course arrange some shoots with local models. I got up there in late afternoon on July 2nd, met up with my friend Sarah McCarthy, the MUA for both of my shoots in Florida a month or so ago. The first shoot was schedule for that night, only two hours after I got settled in. The weather was gloomy and beginning to spell disaster but we decided to move forward, meet up with the model, and take our chances. Sarah and I met with Alisha in the parking lot at a McDonald’s and then headed over to the park where we planned to do the shoot. It had stopped sprinkling, which was a good sign, so we set up shop under a pavilion at the park, and Sarah began doing the makeup while I explored around the park to find spots to shoot at.

I found some good locations and started doing some test shots with the flash to get my camera ready with the right settings. the only problem was that the light was constantly changing as the sun kept creeping through the overcast and as it began to get dark outside. For the first set of shots, we used a few trees as a backdrop and the moved under another tree beside a creek. Alisha wore a nice orange and gray dress which worked great to contrast her from the green plants and grass in the background. Below are some select photos from that set. Before we began shooting with I was scouting for locations I saw a tennis practice wall (where you basically practice against yourself) that had a cool two-tone chipped paint personality to it. We decided to take some photos there after a quick change. Alisha went and changed into jeans and a tank top and met Sarah and I at the wall. Since most of the wall was white, it absorbed and reflected light really well and made the lighting a lot easier to work with. These were actually by far my favorite shots of the day. Below are some various shots from that set. If you would like to view them all, then you can click here to go to the Wall set on my Flickr.

The sun was setting, we were exhausted, and were getting low on blood due to all the mosquitoes [cold chills], so we decided to call it a night. Thanks to Sarah for doing an amazing job as always with the makeup, for picking the location, and being working out most of the details for the shoot. Lots of thanks to Alisha as well. Not only did she do an excellent job modeling, but she traveled about 30 minutes to get to the shoot, and stuck with us through the shady weather and mosquito infested location.
