Only a week after giving birth, Lauryn Hill took the stage at L.A. Rising to play to a gathering crowd at one of the biggest events of the year. With an interesting set, which consisted of mostly remixes of her songs, she put everything she had into winning over the dominantly rock-enthusiastic crowd.
Lauryn Hill (or “Ms. Lauryn Hill” as she goes by now) was the only artist to restrict photographers to something other than the three song standard. We were only allowed to shoot the first song, which she spent most of giving signals to her sound guy and back up singers for adjustments. Once she got settled in though, she definitely had a great personality on stage and was great to shoot. Between the nice breeze and the bright late-afternoon sun, she was lit up nicely with the wind blowing back her hair as she belted lyrics into the mic.
