About

My name is Paul Hooper. I’m a graphic designer and social media specialist by day and photography superhero by night.

I studied and enjoyed fine art painting and other media from a young age until college, where lack of funds and my interest in technology led me to graphic design. A last-minute class and a hand-me-down Minolta X-700 got me addicted to photography and ever since I can’t seem to put down a camera.

PUBLICATIONS

My work has appeared in various publications from SPIN Magazine and The Wall Street Journal to local blogs and websites. I currently shoot house photography for Rupp Arena, the Lexington Opera House, and Buster’s Billiards & Backroom in Lexington, KY and shoot national shows for Venues Today Magazine. Between the three, I cover some of the biggest acts touring the world down to the local diamond-in-the-roughs, as well as University of Kentucky Men’s Basketball.

AREAS OF INTEREST

EQUIPMENT

Over the years I have collected equipment to match my specific needs. I find that Nikon has worked the best for concert photography, which I do most often. Between the 17-55mm f/2.8 and the 70-200mm f/2.8, I can get wide shots at close range while still snapping subjects at a distance. The 50mm f/1.8 (aka the “Plastic Fantastic”) is not only an incredibly affordable lens, but also a staple for any portrait sessions I shoot.
